Double Chocolate Chip Cookies

Double Chocolate Chip Cookies

For the love of chocolate

I quietly think that I don’t have many vices (well I do but I don’t talk about them). Except for chocolate. I literally can’t walk past a piece of chocolate without going weak at the knees. Which is quite sobering really because I write a lot about healthy eating so it just goes to prove I am human. So for me chocolate would have to be one of the most uplifting, satisfying foods one could eat. Best to have it sparingly and to enjoy the best quality you can afford. These double chocolate chip cookies were actually made by Miss 10. She can whip up a batch in about 20 minutes or so. She used chocolate melts as they have a gorgeous oozy quality when baked that make it all worthwhile. I love to have these biscuits on hand for school lunches or to have with a warming cup of tea or coffee. They are a double dose of chocolate and it really is hard to stop at one.

But it has so many benefits!

But of course chocolate is very good for you in small amounts. It contains antioxidants, calcium, protein, magnesium, phosphorus and iron and may even help prevent heart disease. It certainly helps elevate your mood if you are a bit low by stimulating endorphins in your brain. But because it contains fat and sugar it is what we call a discretionary food. I certainly use my discretion when I choose chocolate! But seriously if you are active and have an otherwise healthy diet, chocolate is not going to work against you. My GP even recommended that I eat a small amount of chocolate each day! Now I am not saying that this is medical advice for everyone but it does go to show that chocolate can be of benefit.

Feel free to use milk or dark chocolate in this cookies or a combination of both. They are beautiful no matter you choose. And did I say they were easy? You will complete a batch in almost under half an hour.

Better than the bought version

Because these cookies are so easy and quick to make they make the great alternative to store bought biscuits.  The benefit is you know exactly what has gone into them.  They also don’t have any nasties such as preservatives, corn syrup or other additives ending in -ose which don’t do you any favours whatsoever.  While these biscuits are on the naughty list they include good things such as eggs and wholesome butter and good quality chocolate. So I think you are really looking after yourself if you include homemade baked goods in your diet.  Of course, a little at a time but you know where they have come from and from that perspective they won’t harm you. Just don’t eat them all at once….

So these double chocolate chip cookies are the perfect way to enjoy chocolate. They are easy enough for a child to make by themselves and so delicious that no one can resist.

Do you have a favourite chocolate chip cookie recipe.  I would love you to share it with me!
